LAKE KARIBA AND MATUSADONA NATIONAL PARK

Until recently Kariba formed the largest man-made lake in the world, covering an area of 5,000 km2. Damming the Zambezi River in the 1950s formed Lake Kariba and over the years the lake has created a unique ecosystem, becoming one of Zimbabwe’s prime wilderness areas. It offers excellent opportunities for fishing, bird watching, and a variety of big mammals can be seen in the scenic Matusadona National Park. The area is diverse in habitat, from a beautiful shoreline guarded by dead trees, changing to the rugged Matusadona Mountains, which provide a majestic backdrop to this wild area. This is the best park to track black rhinoceros on foot and provides excellent lion sightings.
