TARANGIRE
NATIONAL PARK
Tarangire National Park (2,600 km2) is renowned for
its large elephant population and beautiful trees. In
the dry season, herds of a 1000 or so elephant mass
around the dwindling water holes and the river. Acacia
savannah dominates the horizon, but the variation of
plant life is spectacular with tortilla acacia trees,
candelabra trees, whistling acacia thorn, baobab and
colourful flowers, particularly in the spring.
Oliver's
Camp is situated on Maasai land, outside
the park on the migration route. The camp accommodates
18 guests on either side of a dry riverbed, which leads
up to a gorge with permanent water, attracting elephant.
5 night walking trails can be taken from the camp, sleeping
on simple bedrolls under mozi nets. This is an amazing
experience during which you become totally aware of
every bush night sound. This is a professionally hosted
safari camp, with the Tarangire Ecosystem as its focus.
