SELOUS GAME RESERVE

The Selous Game Reserve, in Southern Tanzania, is Africa's largest reserve covering 55,000 km2. Photographic safaris operate in the northern sector above the Rufiji River. The reserve is renowned for lion, spotted hyena, leopard and wild dog. Miombo woodland provides home to some 300-bird species. Because of the terrain the park is perfectly suited to walking safaris and your guide will identify the many sounds, small insects and animal tracks, which are so often missed from a vehicle. Canoeing and motor boating are also available on the Rufiji River. The Selous is dramatically beautiful and its remote vastness has kept tourist numbers to a minimum. 5 nights recommended.

Sand Rivers Selous has a stunning view of the sun setting over the Rufiji River with the Miombo woodland in the background. Richard Bonham, renowned naturalist and conversationalist, discovered the site for the lodge, which is small and unobtrusive, accommodating 16 guests in stone and thatch ensuite cottages overlooking the river. The guides are all expert and offer game drives, boating and walking, with the opportunity to fly-camp on simple bedrolls under mozi nets.
