RUAHA NATIONAL
PARK
Ruaha is Tanzania's second largest national park at
13,000 km2, and one of its wildest and best kept secrets.
Only the area around the Great Ruaha River has been
developed for tourism, and even this sees relatively
few visitors, thus preserving a massive chunk of raw
African wilderness. Ruaha protects a wide variety of
habitats, including evergreen forest and swamp. Much
of the park is covered in miombo woodland. There are
also significant areas of grassland dotted with baobab
and acacia. The park contains the largest elephant population
of the national parks in Tanzania despite heavy losses
due to poaching. Ruaha is best visited between July
and November, when animals concentrate around the river
.
Mwagusi
Safari Camps is owned and managed by Chris
Fox, an experienced safari guide bursting with knowledge
and enthusiasm! The camp is reminiscent of hunting camps
from the 1950's, with reed and grass shading the ensuite
tents accommodating 16 guests. Chris prefers to experience
the bush on foot, viewing the environment at close hand
without disturbing the serenity and so "fly camping"
is a regular feature. Game drives are also offered.
