Tanzania is one of the most complete holiday destinations
offering unique landscapes, big game, culture and fantastic
untouched beaches. To many people it is typically Out
of Africa and boasts some of Africas very best
small, exclusive lodges and camps in areas of outstanding
beauty, together with private mobile safaris led by fantastic
guides.
Distances between areas are vast and so
the country can be split into three sections; Firstly,
Northern Tanzania, including the Serengeti, Ngorongoro
Crater, Lake Manyara, Tarangire and Kilimanjaro; secondly,
Southern Tanzania including the Selous Game Reserve and
Ruaha National Park; and thirdly Zanzibar and the Coast.
Holidays in Tanzania generally combine either Northern or
Southern Tanzania with the coast.
Traditionally Northern Tanzania has
been accessed by mobile safaris covering the huge distances
by 4x4, or for budget safaris, by mini bus or truck. This
does give one a taste of rural African life, but many of the
roads are poor and heavily potholed. We recommend light
aircraft flights between
Arusha or Kilimanjaro, Manyara,
Seronera and Grumeti in the Serengeti, which is time
efficient and allows spectacular aerial views. Camps range
from small “Gucci style” luxury bush camps / lodges, to
large Serena and Sopa hotels. Southern Tanzania is
accessible by scheduled light aircraft flights between
Zanzibar, Dar Es Salaam, Selous and Ruaha. Mobile safaris
operate in the north and south on a tailor made, or budget,
camping basis. Regular scheduled flights connect Northern
and Southern Tanzania with the Coast. Within the National
Parks game viewing is in open top or closed 4x4 vehicles and
minibuses. Walking in National Parks is only with the
consent of the Tanzania National Parks Board and each area
is assessed individually.
International access is best via Nairobi (to Arusha) or Dar
Es Salaam (to Arusha, Selous, Zanzibar or the coast), and
itineraries can be easily combined with Malawi or Zambia.
