NYIKA NATIONAL PARK

The Nyika National Park consists of rolling montane grasslands on a high plateau, with pockets of evergreen forest in the valleys It is home to 120 types of orchids, roan, eland, zebra, leopard, hyena and over 350 bird species. Nyika is cool throughout the year and is malaria free.

The Nyika Safari Company specialises in walking and riding safaris. Itineraries are tailored to suit your preferences for game viewing and landscape and include game drives, bush walks and riding for 2 - 6 guests. Accommodation is varied including permanent lodges or mobile-tented camps. Horses are well-schooled and responsive thoroughbreds and crossbreeds, all between 14 - 16 hands. Nyika is suitable for novice to experienced riders, as it has few dangerous animals and lots of wide-open moor land, which allows one to cover distances at speed, with 4 - 7 hours riding per day.

Chelinda Lodge is operated by David and Robin Foot and consists of 4 cottages, each with 2 bedrooms, bathroom and kitchenette. Game drives and bush walks are offered. Chelinda is also the base camp for Nyika Horse Safaris and the starting point for most riding trails.
