Malawi

LAKE MALAWI

Lake Malawi is at the southern end of Africa's Great Rift Valley and runs almost the entire length of Malawi. It has sparkling clear waters, scenic outcrops of racks, densely wooded islands, sand dunes, reed marshes, beaches, pretty coves and about 500 species of tropical fish.

Livingstonia Beach Hotel is widely recognised as Lake Malawi's best beach hotel. This charming, colonial style hotel has comfortable accommodation for 60 guests. The Protea Hotel chain has recently acquired the lodge and refurbishment is planned. The hotel offers a private beach, swimming, snorkelling, windsurfing, canoeing and walking.

Chintenche Inn is situated on the northern shores of Lake Malawi, between Nkhotakota and Nkata Bay. The lodge is remote and rustic, accommodating 20 guests in ensuite bedrooms with views across the lake. Besides beach activities, guests can visit the traditional villages and learn about and enjoy rural African culture, traditions and village life.

Club Makokola is situated on a private stretch of beach and comprises 66 en-suite thatched rondavel rooms, including one lunar and one executive suite. Activities include golf, swimming in the pool, sailing, water skiing, windsurfing.
