CURRENCY

We recommend that you take your spending money in USD or GBP traveller’s cheques. Credit cards are generally accepted and most camps accept Dollars, Pounds or South African Rands. Zimbabwe Dollars, Namibian Dollars, Malawi Kwacha, Zambian Kwacha and Mozambique Meticals are not available in the United Kingdom. Please ensure you obtain a currency declaration form on arrival in Botswana and Zimbabwe and hold onto it as you will be asked for it on your departure. A maximum of R5000.00 cash per person can be taken into and out of South Africa.

For those passengers flying out of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania and Malawi there is an international airport departure tax of US$20.00 per person, which must be paid in cash at the airport. Please ensure that you have the exact amount in US$ as no other currency is acceptable and there is never any change! In addition Zambia charges a domestic departure tax of US$5.00 per person and Tanzania charges a domestic departure tax of US$4.00 per person, which must be paid in cash at the airport. Mauritius charges a departure tax of R300.
