Hiding in the shade of giant leadwood trees on the banks of the Luangwa River, Tafika is an authentic bush camp that offers superb hospitality combined with outstanding game viewing in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Location:
Situated just outside the Nsefu sector of the South Luangwa National Park in eastern Zambia.
Accommodation and facilities:
Accommodation is in six rustic, thatched roof and half-walled reed chalets containing two double beds and a delightful, en suite open-air bathroom. The family chalet has two bedrooms and all have a private veranda. Unlike many South Luangwa camps, Tafika stays open in the ’Green Season’ from February to April, during which time you can take to a boat or canoe and sneak past hippos and wallowing elephants at close proximity. This also the time to enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Luangwa in full flood - an awesome blend of rich greens and flooded channels overhung with groves of ebony trees, all alive with an abundance of birdlife. Owners John and Carol Coppinger offer guests the ultimate bush experience with an exceptional level of guiding and, with John and Carol having raised two daughters in the bush, children of all ages are most welcome.
Activities:
Activities include game drives, walking safaris and, in the wet season, boating, canoeing and exceptional bird watching. Guests can also enjoy painting safaris, day trips to the Bangweulu swamps and for the more adventurous, the camp offers microlighting as an optional extra.
Special attractions:
The staff at Tafika are mainly employed from the nearby Mkasanga Village and guests can enjoy a visit to the village to see how the local people live. Tafika also plays an active roll in local development by sponsoring teachers’ salaries and pupils’ tuition at Mkasanga School.
