Norman Carr Safaris’ Bush Camps are positioned in areas of outstanding natural beauty and provided the highest levels of hospitality, service and amenities:
Location:
Situated in the South Luangwa National Park.
Accommodation and facilities:
Luwi Bushcamp
Luwi is a seasonal camp nestled under huge mahogany trees on the banks of a permanent lagoon. Accommodation is in four huts that are made of grass and thatch with polished mud floors. Daytime meals are served in the shade of the trees with a view of the grassy plain that normally attracts an abundance of wildlife, whilst dinner is taken under the stars accompanied by the many sounds of the African night. There is a large lagoon adjacent to camp that teems with hippo and crocodile. This permanent water source attracts game from far and wide making the camp area constantly busy with animals. Since there are very few roads in this area of the Park, the emphasis from Luwi is on walking.
Nsolo Bushcamp
Nsolo is a romantic, thatched camp, situated on a waterhole in the shade of a large grove of trees, just three hours’ safari walk from Luwi Bushcamp. Accommodation consists of four open-fronted rooms, built on raised wooden platforms under a thatched roof. At night, the canvas curtains can be drawn for added security. The bathrooms are open to the trees and stars above. The main “chitenge” hosts the bar and a small library of books. This is an excellent place to relax during the heat of the day and watch the constant activity at the waterhole in front of the camp.
Kakuli Bushcamp
Kakuli is a seasonal camp on the confluence of the Luwi and Luangwa rivers. There are five spacious tents under shady thatched roofs, each with an open-air bathroom. All of the tents overlook the river with stunning views up and down this hippo-packed stretch of river. There is a lovely “chitenge” overlooking the grazing lawn that leads down to the rivers. This area of the park is renowned for its great game viewing and guests will usually split their time between walking and driving.
Mchenja Camp
Mchenja, meaning ’the ebony tree’, is set beneath a magnificent grove of these trees on the banks of the Luangwa River. Although a more luxurious camp, Mchenja is designed to combine excellently with the other more rustic bush camps. The camp comprises five stylishly designed tents, each with private en suite shower and bathroom. There is a small pool alongside the bar within the thatched main “chitenge”.
