Situated overlooking the Luangwa River, Kaingo’s relaxed, personal and friendly atmosphere offers guests fantastic game viewing opportunities within an area of incredible beauty and varied terrain.

Location:
Situated in South Luangwa National Park, north of the main gate near Lion Plains.

Accommodation and facilities:
Guests are accommodated in four twin chalets and one honeymoon suite. All are fully en suite with netting windows allowing the sounds of the night and the breeze to filter through. The honeymoon suite is nestled under tall leadwood and sausage trees and, in addition to the indoor en suite bathroom, has a stunning outdoor bathtub. There is a large, centrally located, open-sided sitting room which includes a dining area, library and Kaingo’s renowned thousand year old leadwood bar. Meals are varied and of a high standard using fresh produce from the family farm. One of the camp’s many charming features is the wooden deck built out over the river. From this splendid vantage point guests are treated to the awesome sights of basking hippos, aquatic birds, crocodiles fishing and elephant crossings.

Activities:
Guided walking safaris, 4x4 game drives and night drives, midday trips into the ebony forest and to the hippo hide and outstanding birding and photographic opportunities.

Special attractions:
The area is home to two extremely productive lion prides, which guests can follow and there are more than eight individual leopards around Kaingo and Mwamba. There are elephant and hippo hides close by, which afford visitors the opportunity to view these extraordinary mammals close up. Stork fishing parties, carmine bee-eater colonies, resident Pels fishing owl and red-billed quelea in their thousands are among the birding highlights of the area.
