Chongwe River Camp is an intimate, family owned and run business dedicated to providing a safari experience that can only be described as a ’home from home’. The camp itself looks onto the confluence of the two rivers and the mountains of the escarpment to the north and nestles under a canopy of huge winterthorn acacias.
Location:
Situated on the confluence of the Chongwe and Zambezi Rivers, directly opposite Mana Pools.
Accommodation and facilities:
The chalets are large, well appointed Mulati tents under thatch, with a luxury, en suite open air bathroom. Situated under a canopy of albida thorns and surrounded by cool lawns, each tent sleeps two people, in twin or double beds. The bathrooms are an experience on their own where you can shower under the stars or the early morning sunshine. All fittings are made from natural materials found near the lodge. The camp’s renowned chef will prepare a wide variety of dishes, which are served at the outdoor dining table. Dining al fresco under a canopy of stars with the sounds of the bush as a backdrop is a truly unforgettable experience!
Activities:
The camp offers a choice of day and night game drives in open safari vehicles, guided walking, canoeing or motor boating.
Special attractions:
Fishing is a particularly popular attraction here, as the Zambezi is home to the Tiger fish, one of the world’s premier game fish, which can grow up to 10 -12 Kg. Chongwe also specialises in walking safaris, affording guests the time to learn about the not so obvious secrets of the bush.
