Grace and elegance are the two words that best describe the Emin Pasha Hotel, where tradition blends effortlessly with contemporary architecture and amenities. A stay here will carry you back to an era when taste, gentle service, ambience and comfort were the hallmarks of a good hotel.
Located right near the centre of town, the hotel is set in two acres of peaceful park-like tropical gardens. Big mature trees, flowering shrubs and scented vines abound, yet the hotel is within walking distance of the Commercial Business District and many Embassies and Foreign Missions.
The Emin Pasha has twenty rooms, as well as one self contained private flat for longer stays. Each room is different in terms of layout, size and decor, but all are decorated with the African landscape in mind. Each room features hardwood furniture, Egyptian cotton sheets, summer-weight duvets, giant soft towels, long deep cast iron bathtubs or giant tropical ’monsoon’ showers with African slate floors. All rooms are fully en suite and have air-conditioning, direct dial telephones, internet and satellite television.
Meals can be enjoyed in the FEZ restaurant and wine bar. The bar - which is completely open to the elements on one side - has deep sofas, armchairs and chunky coffee tables and is the perfect place for a relaxing drink and good conversation.
This hotel is the ideal base from which to explore Kampala or to launch a Uganda Safari, to acclimatise to the time and the weather before setting off upcountry. It also is a civilised and welcome end to a long dusty journey.
