Set on a hillside above a river overlooking the lush rainforest opposite, Volcanoes Lodge is an ideal destination for visits to the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and provides a great starting point for gorilla tracking.
Location:
Situated on the edge of Buhoma village alongside Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Accommodation and facilities:
The lodge accommodates guests in eight large, beautifully constructed thatched cottages, all with en suite facilities - ’bucket’ showers and ’long-drop’ toilets are similar to those found in the more remote safari camps. Each of the cottages has its own private veranda which affords spectacular views over the forested hillside on the opposite bank. The communal area consists of a bar and dining room, which again provide superb vistas of the surrounding area.
Activities:
The main activities centre primarily upon tracking and observing some of the last remaining mountain gorillas in the world. The safari takes you tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park where four habituated families live in thicker tropical forest. There are further, more challenging, tracking opportunities on the steep hillsides that surround the camp.
Special attractions:
Nature walks to see the extensive birdlife, monkeys and orchids are also available – these are taken alongside a knowledgeable National Park’s guide.
