Located on the western side of Zanzibar Island in the heart of Stone Town, the Serena Inn is a masterful amalgamation of two historic seafront buildings that have been restored into a unique single property that perfectly echoes the grandeur of days past. The dramatic restoration has resulted in a fusion of authenticity and opulence that reflects the very essence of Zanzibar, lavishly embellished with a collection of antique clocks, crystal chandeliers, fretwork screens, carved staircases, Persian rugs and brass-studded doors.
All fifty one, air conditioned bedrooms overlook the azure waters of the Indian Ocean and the dhows that dawdle across it. Each room is cool and white; constructed to the traditional design of a Swahili house, adorned with arched niches, antique plates, brass lamps, and traditionally carved furniture, draped beds and louvre doors opening onto wrought-iron balconies overlooking the Persian-bath pool and azure bay beyond.
Dining is a feast and enjoyed in the sea front restaurant where a team of chefs prepare sumptuous local seafood dishes that reflect the many cultural influences that Zanzibar delights in.
This is a place to relax by the swimming pool with its poolside cafe bar and shop. Then, when you are inclined, water sports and other recreations are offered including excursions to nearby islands and the Jozani Forest, which is home to a variety of bird species and other small wildlife, or perhaps a visit to the many historical landmarks that Stone Town has to enjoy.
Guest at Serena also have access to the exclusive Mangapwani Beach Club which is ideal for sun worshipping, swimming, sea sports, sumptuous seafood and a lavish array of barbecues.
