Overlooking the Indian Ocean, on the northern tip of Zanzibar, Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel is a cluster of whitewashed and palm thatched cottages set in rich tropical gardens within an expanse of beautiful beach wilderness - and is one of the island’s finest hotels. Protected by a coral reef, this is the ideal location for all forms of water sports or for simply relaxing in the temperate waters and soaking up the equatorial sun. The unspoilt beach at Ras Nungwi is arguably the best on Zanzibar and the nearby coral reef yields a beautiful lagoon where at low tide sparkling white coral sand bars are revealed with shimmering rock pools teeming with marine life.

All thirty two rooms are tastefully furnished, with four poster beds and en suite facilities with deluxe bathroom amenities. All have private balconies, air-conditioning, ceiling fans mini-bar and electronic safes. Lodge rooms have a garden view and both types of chalet room (superior and superior deluxe) have a sea view, with proximity to the ocean being closer the higher the category.

For those seeking a truly exclusive hideaway, Ras Nungwi’s unique Ocean Suite provides the most exquisite beach accommodation on Zanzibar Island. This expansive detached suite is totally self-contained in lush, verdant gardens, with its own plunge pool and spacious living areas. Guests in the Ocean Suite enjoy a magnificent roof-terrace and open-air sitting room, perfect for siestas and stargazing.  Just beyond the private terrace a path meanders down to the stunning white-sand beach and dazzling turquoise lagoon.

Dining at Ras Nungwi is a gourmet extravaganza, with chefs preparing elegant and appetising menus from an abundance of local ingredients, including fresh coconut and aromatic spices, the finest array of seafood and plenty of heavenly tropical fruit - all accompanied by the finest award winning wines and a star studded African night sky.

When its time to cool off the hotel’s deck-level swimming pool is lined with glass mosaic tiles in shades of blue, and commands stunning views of the Indian Ocean.

The reefs that surround Ras Nungwi create a perfect location for diving and snorkelling and are home to a flourishing population of dolphin, turtles, and countless other tropical marine species. The hotel has an on-site, fully equipped, PADI Gold Palm 5 Star dive centre and dive adventures are available for all experience levels including beginners, who can be trained to full PADI certification by the resident instructors.

A good range of windsurfing boards and sails are also available in addition to deep sea fishing trips, water-skiing and kayaking.
