Mbweni Ruins Hotel lies majestically in magnificent gardens on the edge of a deserted mangrove skirted beach, five miles from Stone Town. Here you will find an irresistible blend of Zanzibar’s historic past combined with modern-day luxury and comfort. The luscious gardens were conceived in 1991 and are now established as a flourishing botanic garden featuring over 650 plant species including 120 species of palms. They are also home to many species of butterfly and birdlife and form a haven of peace and tranquillity with quiet corners in which to relax and fully enjoy this unique environment.

Accommodation is offered in the form of thirteen air-conditioned suites, all en suite with double or twin beds and furnished in distinctive Zanzibari style. Each suite has a balcony overlooking the sea and is within easy access to the swimming pool and the secluded beach.

Dinner is taken in The Raintree Restaurant which nestles in greenery on the cliff top overlooking the Indian Ocean. The chefs offer delicious combinations of International and Zanzibari food using fresh market produce and ocean fresh seafood. As an atmospheric and romantic alternative, tables are set on the beach for sumptuous barbecues.

Activities are many and varied including swimming and snorkelling from the hotel beach or alternatively an organised trip to the sandbanks opposite, where you can swim and snorkel on pristine beaches and enjoy a delicious barbecue lunch. There are superb nature trails around the grounds to explore and discover the superb palm collection. Guests can also take canoeing trips in the mangrove glades just to the south.
