Amani Beach Hotel, Mainland

The Amani Beach Hotel sits amongst forty hectares of indigenous parkland overlooking the Indian Ocean, twenty miles south of Dar es Salaam. Uniquely designed in an Afro-Arabian style it provides a haven of tranquillity, charm and character distinctly reminiscent of the garden palaces of the past Sultans of Zanzibar. Strategically located on a glorious shoreline, with its own light aircraft landing strip, the Selous Game Reserve and Southern Game Parks of Tanzania, Zanzibar and Mafia Islands are all just a short flight away.

Accommodation is in ten, cottage style suites each with a beautiful garden terrace overlooking the Indian Ocean. The air conditioned suites are beautifully furnished in traditional style with large Zanzibar beds, bath chamber with shower, mini fridge and writing desk.

Amani has two restaurants - the Amani Restaurant is situated in the main building where breakfast and dinner are served.  Here, a four course dinner of Pan-African dishes is served in a romantic candlelight setting under the stars (weather permitting) or under the Makuti roof. Pre-dinner drinks are served in the bar or lounge attached to the dining room.

Lunch is served at the pool restaurant where you can enjoy a cool cocktail with the sounds and gentle breeze from the ocean.  Lunch is served al-fresco so you do not have to move too far away from the comfort of the swimming pool and beach.  Dishes are a sumptuous selection of fresh catch of the day, salads with a choice of Mediterranean flavours and include vegetables and herbs from its own nursery.

Swimming in the large pool beside the sandy beach, tennis, pentanque, volley ball, snorkelling, and wind surfing are always high on the activities agenda.

Walks on the long stretch of deserted beach or through the tropical gardens are a most enjoyable and relaxing way of enjoying the natural beauty at Amani.  Local inhabitants include three species of monkeys and baboons and a profusion of beautiful birdlife.

Horse riding can be arranged and your stay would not be complete without a Ngalawa (canoe) ride to explore the surrounding reef and sunken ship that lies there.
