Loliondo Safari Camp is a semi-permanent camp located in the Loliondo Community Area located on the eastern side of the Serengeti National Park and is a place of outstanding natural beauty with a landscape of differing habitats including grassy plains, rolling wooded hills, acacia-lined watercourses and dramatic granite kopjes. This is home to an abundance of game, drawn during the dry season by the nearby waterhole and increasing in the spring and especially the autumn.
Location:
Located in Loliondo/Maasailand, close to the South Eastern side of the Maasai Mara, Kenya. The camp spends six months of the year in Ololosokwan in the north and then six months in Piyaya in southern Loliondo.
Accommodation and facilities:
The camp consists of six large yurts, with a dining yurt and separate lounge/library yurt. Each accommodation yurt has its own en suite bathroom - attached to the back of the main sleeping area, with traditional safari bucket showers and toilets. The yurts have been designed to be as cool as possible during the day, and have wrap-around shade net windows with flaps that can be rolled up or down. There is also a traditional open ‘wheel’ in the centre of the roof (in Mongolian ’gers’, this is where the chimney of the fireplace would be located). This helps to keep the yurt feeling open and airy. There is a canvas ’cap’ that covers the wheel at night, or in bad weather.
Activities:
Walking safaris and night drives are a highlight with experienced Nomad guides, excellent birding and enchanting cultural visits to meet the local Maasai.
Special attractions:
Whilst the landscape and game is stunning, the emphasis is very much on cultural interaction with the Maasai. The camp moves seasonally as weather and game conditions dictate. A safari linking Loliondo Safari Camp and Serengeti Safari Camp offers the ultimate Serengeti experience.
