Simplicity of style and an unrivalled traditional African safari experience is the best way to describe what awaits you at the Mdonya Old River Camp. Benefiting from a most beautiful wilderness location under the shade of acacia and sycamore fig trees overlooking the dry river bed, this is a seasoned safari-goers’ stepping stone to the ultimate wildlife adventure. In these days of lavish and luxurious camps, Mdonya takes you back to the basics - connecting and sharing with nature and in being in total sympathy with the environment - the result... a safari experience that will remain with you for the rest of your life!
Location:
Located in the western part of the Ruaha National Park, a few kilometres from the Mdonya Falls.
Accommodation and facilities:
Eleven traditional safari tents are spread out over a large area within the camp. Each tent has en suite bathrooms with dressing room, open-roofed shower and separate flush toilet. The dining and lounge tents are under acacias and sycamore figs overlooking the dry river bed. Here guests can enjoy delicious home cooked food by candlelight whilst enjoying the night sounds of a thousand crickets and the calls of hyena and passing lions.
Activities:
Include bush game drives, bush dinners, and walks beside the Great Ruaha river.
Special attractions:
The sand-river yields grass for grazing and this attracts the herbivores which in turn attract the bigger game and predators. It is not unusual to see lion in or around the camp, as well as elephant and buffalo.
