Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge is the only property located on the eastern side of Ngorongoro Crater. It is a veritable architectural marvel having been built right on the rim of the collapsed volcano and boasts truly magnificent views over the crater floor. This is an area which has been inhabited by man and beast for over three million years and it possesses an air of calm and tranquillity, allowing guests to soak up the sensations of viewing some of the most spectacular and vivid landscapes and wildlife, whilst enjoying the highest levels of service and attention.
Location:
Situated on the eastern rim of the Ngorongoro Crater in the volcanic highlands of Northern Tanzania.
Accommodation and facilities:
Sopa accommodates one hundred and ninety guests in ninety six centrally heated suites, each with two queen size beds, full en suite facilities, a private lounge with a mini bar, and a private solarium. The main building features high ceilings and superb decor and terraces which provide spectacular views of the crater. Meals are a cosmopolitan blend of European, African and Asian dishes, all made with fresh produce. There is a delightful swimming pool on the edge of the crater and an extensive gift shop.
Activities:
Wildlife watching and game drives and visits to local Maasai villages can be arranged where guests will be treated to some magical displays of dance. There are also some excellent birding opportunities within the area.
Special attractions:
Whilst you are here, you can enjoy a fascinating time watching the hippos at their pool located on the crater floor. Ornithological safaris are also available, as are trips to the Empakaai crater with its flamingo frosted soda lake.
