Providing guests with a real slice of ’old Africa’, Gibb’s Farm is a homely and warm colonial homestead that was once the heart of the surrounding coffee plantations. Engulfed by a lush variety of tropical flowers and trees, Gibb’s Farm overlooks part of the coffee plantation that nestles into the northern Tanzanian hillsides near the Ngorongoro Conservation Area affording spectacular views from the terraced gardens of the old farmhouse towards the Great Rift Valley Escarpment.

Situated near the village of Karatu - midway between Lake Manyara National Park and Ngorongoro Crater.
Accommodation and facilities:
A charming cluster of sixteen cottages built in various styles and sizes, featuring rich wooden floors and classic interiors with wraparound windows. En-suite garden bathrooms offer twin basins, luxurious bathtubs and showers. The main facilities, consisting of a living room, reading room, dining room, bar and gift shop, are situated in the original farmhouse. The organic fruit and vegetable garden provides the ingredients for healthy, fresh home-cooked meals and a superb farm-style buffet lunch including wood-oven baked bread, a wide selection of savoury meat and vegetable pies, quiches, fresh and creative salads as well as a few traditional African dishes.
Activities:
Walks to a nearby waterfall and caves made by elephants, interpretative garden tours, extensive birding and a traditional farm experience.
Special attractions:
The local Iraqw tribe has inhabited the immediate Ngorongoro highlands around Gibb’s Farm for over 200 years. Guests can visit a traditional Iraqw home to see many of the traditional tools, and weapons used by the Iraqw and learn how to grind maize the traditional way using grinding stones.
