Ant’s Nest and Ant’s Hill are two exceptional bush homes situated on adjoining private game reserves in the Waterberg. The aim is to provide a uniquely flexible safari experience which provides guests with a wide choice of activities. Both reserves offer diverse eco-systems ranging from wide-open plains to beautiful mountainous areas, enabling visitors view the widest variety of game possible. They boast over 40 species of game and well over 300 species of resident and migrant birds.
Location:
The reserves are situated on an escarpment looking out over the Waterberg plateau in the Limpopo Province.
Accommodation and facilities:
Ant’s Nest - Set perfectly within a natural acacia amphitheatre, Ant’s Nest offers a totally individual and flexible ’home from home’ experience. The original homestead with its wide verandas has a classic African atmosphere. Accommodation is within six, luxurious en suite rooms accommodating a maximum of just twelve guests. Nestled in the landscaped gardens, there is a delightful expansive pool and a wonderful thatched covered ’chill out’ retreat furnished with large sofa beds for those in need of a siesta or respite from the sun.
Ant’s Hill - Again with accommodation limited to a maximum of twelve guests, Ant’s Hill provides a haven of ’homely’ peace and relaxation. Built on the edge of a gorge, this bush home offers breathtaking views across the Waterberg. With spacious rooms and vast folding doors, the thatched lodge blends into the bush, while the exotic furniture and brightly coloured African fabrics make it both sophisticated and comfortable. Each bathroom is spectacular, offering guests sunken baths and waterfall showers. Set in boulders on the edge of the cliff, the infinity swimming pool cascades over the lip of the gorge.
Both lodges are perfectly served by sumptuous home cooking, dining outside whenever possible under shady trees. Morning game activities are often concluded with a sumptuous bush lunch, whilst at night dinner is enjoyed around open fires under the stars.
When not exploring the superb park attractions, guests can lounge by the pool or enjoy a massage, there is an informative library and a curio shop stocked with original, handmade crafts.
Activities:
Both lodges offer horseback game safaris, open 4x4 Land Cruiser morning and afternoon game drives or at night time, using a spotlight to find the elusive nocturnal animals. Guided tours of the Waterberg are also available including a tour of Ant’s cattle stud and farm.
Special Attractions:
At both lodges, special activities are provided for children and teenagers who enjoy getting involved in the running of a game reserve. Children of all ages are welcome to join parents on all activities available or can alternatively be taken out separately. Children can attend a colourful Sunday school to interact with the local Sotho children.
