Situated in northern Zululand in close proximity to the Indian Ocean, Thanda Private Game Reserve has recently been voted Africa’s most luxurious safari destination. Accommodation and facilities:
Guests are invited to languish within nine luxurious and spacious Bush Villas, each beautifully decorated in rich textures, colours and fabrics styled to blend with and reflect the moods of Africa. All have a heated private splash pool, private boma, viewing deck and sala, lounge and fireplace and generous bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers. Built under thatch and based on the traditional Zulu design, the spacious main lodge has sweeping views of bush and mountains. The facilities of the main lodge include a fire-lit dining room, outdoor dining decks and an outdoor ’boma’ plus a cosy library and bar. The dining room offers outstanding cuisine or meals can be served in the private bomas or the private decks of each villa, under sparkling skies. Thanda also offers a Tented Camp of four luxury bush tents, each with a private viewing deck, bathroom with shower and flush toilet.
Activities:
Activities at Thanda include game drives in open 4x4 vehicles through the reserve, bush walks with rangers, a visit to Vula Zulu, a traditional Zulu homestead and cultural experience, and birding safaris. A variety of external activities are available, such as fresh-water and deep sea fishing, horse riding on the beach at Sodwana, and estuary cruises.
