Phinda Private Game Reserve

Phinda Private Game Reserve comprises 54,000 acres of prime conservation land covering seven distinct habitats. Cradled between the mountains and ocean, the dense bush is home to an abundance of wildlife including the ’Big Five’ - lion, leopard, elephant, black and white rhino and buffalo - and over 400 bird species, while the marine area, off the nearby coast of Sodwana, is said to be in equal standing with Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
Location:
Situated in the Maputaland region in northern KwaZulu-Natal on the borders of the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park.

Accommodation and facilities:
Lodge accommodation is available in six options and all have either swimming pools or plunge pools and offer the highest standards of Pan African dining:

Phinda Forest Lodge - Set deep in the heart of a rare dry sand forest, accommodation is in sixteen luxurious, air conditioned glass suites, built on stilts amongst towering torchwood trees. All enjoy full en suite facilities and have a personal bar on their own private veranda.

Phinda Mountain Lodge - Affording spectacular views of the Lebombo Mountains and bushveld, this lodge comprises of twenty air conditioned suites each with en suite bathroom, a sitting area, personal bar and private veranda.

Phinda Vlei Lodge - Intimate and elegant, this exquisite lodge comprises six thatched suites with ensuite bathrooms, dressing rooms, private plunge pools and verandas overlooking the vlei (wetland system) where guests are likely to observe herds of grazing antelope, zebra and a dazzling variety of birdlife.

Phinda Rock Lodge - Consists of six exceptional suites dramatically set into a cliff-face overlooking spectacular Leopard Rock. Each suite has a spacious bedroom with en suite facilities. All suites have their own private sitting area, personal bar, private plunge pool and veranda offering unrivalled views of spectacular Leopard Rock and the valley.

Phinda Zuka Lodge - The four thatched Zululand bush cottages are set 50 feet apart, featuring verandas overlooking a bustling waterhole. The sitting areas feature built-in sofas which double as beds for parents travelling with children five years and younger. Air-conditioned bedrooms have overhead fans and en suite bathrooms, with a circular stone bath chamber, double showers, separate wc and twin hand basins.

Phinda Getty House - A sophisticated sole-use villa situated in the west of the Reserve, this exclusive, private residence overlooks an extinct volcano now covered in lush green vegetation and ringed by gently rolling hills. Consists of four spacious suites featuring unique sliding panel windows with beautiful views, all en suite and featuring an interactive kitchen allowing intimate and informal dining.

Activities:
Whichever accommodation option you choose, there is a wealth of leisure opportunities available here, ranging from interpretive game-drives, guided bush walks, canoeing on the Mzinene River, white rhino tracking, or watching the sunrise or sunset whilst enjoying a Mzinene river boat cruise. Scuba diving or game fishing in Sodwana Bay, horse riding along the beach or through False Bay Nature Reserve and a breathtaking flight over Maputaland are all safari activities that can be arranged at this outstanding reserve.

Special attractions:
Within this uniquely bio-diverse, ’bush and beach’ world guests can enjoy breakfast in the company of lions and rhino, swim with dolphins after lunch and go marlin fishing before dinner, making Phinda one of the most complete safari destinations in Africa.
