The Cybele Forest Lodge and Spa is an intimate and beautifully appointed retreat set gracefully within 300 acres of African paradise surrounded by mountains, meadows and the forests of Mpumalanga. This romantic lodge is a few minutes from the nearest gate to Kruger National Park and is the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding bush and wider region. Guests are accommodated in a charming array of whitewashed buildings set amongst the forest with the main area being centred on a traditional farmhouse with a wide veranda for romantic sundowners.  The surroundings, the rooms and the Relais and Chateaux restaurant are complemented by a serene spa and fitness centre as well as horse riding stables.

Location:
Situated in the mountain forests near the Mpumalanga game reserves.

Accommodation and facilities:
There are just twelve cottages and suites, each with walled gardens.  Many have outside showers and sitting areas and a private swimming pool. For the ultimate in privacy, the Paddock suites offer stunning views over the mountains, forests and meadows. Each comprises a main bedroom and bathroom - featuring a walled garden shower - a large sitting room, a second bathroom, an upstairs gallery with extra beds, and a sun terrace. Each of these suites also has its own generously proportioned swimming pool. There is a Relais and Chateaux Restaurant, which serves the most delightful pan African cuisine, a bar, horse riding, secluded outdoor heated swimming pool and sun-loungers, spa and fitness centre.

Activities:
The surrounding areas are perfect for walks - stroll down to the river through the forest where the wild bushbuck live in the thickets or amble along the river-bank to enjoy a picnic beneath the waterfall. This is also a birders delight with many different varieties to be seen - from colourful sunbirds and kingfishers to purple crested louries and fish eagles.

 Special Attractions:
This area is magnificent riding country and the lodge has its own riding stables with a groom who will escort you on your ride at whatever pace you choose. On self-drive or with a qualified Cybele drive guide, the Panoramic Route is a scenic day trip that includes The Blyde River Canyon, God’s Window, the historic town of Pilgrims Rest and many traditional roadside African craft markets.
