Blue Gum Country Estate is situated on the slopes of the Klein River Mountains and is the perfect base for guests wishing to explore the Overberg area. Deep in the countryside, surrounded by 130 acres of wheat fields, the surroundings encourage guests to relax in the tranquil beauty of the mountainside or to stroll through the vineyards and pastures and shady oaks. The beautiful lawns and gardens here are ideal for the pleasure of an afternoon picnic, a bottle of wine or for simply dozing in a hammock.
Blue Gum comprises of twelve delightful guest suites - the ’mountain facing suites’ are decorated in English country style and have a feature fireplace, armchairs and a private patio area. The colonial African style suites are situated in the Manor House with each enjoying its own private veranda overlooking the valley to the Klein River Mountains. All have the benefit of full en suite facilities, satellite TV and a mini bar.
Dinner is a joy, with delicious cuisine served by candlelight in the dining room or, dependent on the weather, on the deck that overlooks the valley. Light lunches are served on the patio which affords views of fields and mountains. Afternoon tea may be ordered in the conservatory.
Activities are plentiful; the hotel has a splendid swimming pool and tennis courts and, for the more energetic, guests also have use of mountain bikes. There are many nature reserves and botanical gardens in the area, together with museums, championship golf courses and beaches. A wide range of water sports ranging from deep sea fishing, fly fishing, sea kayaking, white shark diving, sailing and scuba diving and some of the best boat based whale watching in the world are available at nearby Hermanus. Guests can also enjoy a sunset cruise down the Stanford River, explore the sea cliff walks around Walker Bay or go on guided mountain walks, bike rides or horse rides to discover the local flora and fauna.
