Modelled on a Scottish hunting lodge and surrounded by 140 acres of indigenous forest just outside Nairobi, Giraffe Manor is an elegant, beautifully intimate and exclusive hotel, famous for its resident herd of giraffe. Giraffe Manor offers a rich blend of welcoming accommodation, highly trained and friendly staff, and well as one of Nairobi’s finest kitchens. This exquisite stone mansion is the only place in the world where you can enjoy the truly awe inspiring experience of feeding and photographing giraffe over the breakfast table and at the front door! In addition to the giraffe, the property is also home to large families of warthogs and the elusive bushbuck.
There are six luxurious bedrooms, immaculately furnished in the style of their day, with large four-poster beds, antique furnishings and Art Deco en suite bathrooms. The Master and Giraffe Room together make for excellent family accommodation, whilst The Karen Blixen Suite is larger and contains one double bed and two single beds. Pre-dinner drinks are taken around the drawing room fire where you will have the chance to be entertained by your hosts and learn more about the Manor’s fascinating history.
The underlying charm of Giraffe Manor is the rare Rothschild giraffe that live in the garden and pay daily visits to the house, peering in upstairs and downstairs windows and doorways. During the day you will shake a bucket of horse pellets and perhaps Lynn or Jock or one of the other members of the giraffe family will come share morning or afternoon tea with you - a truly unique experience!
The Manor also offers a uniquely untouched wilderness on the doorstep of one of Africa’s most cosmopolitan cities, the adjoining Jock Leslie-Melville Nature Education Centre, better known as the Giraffe Centre. Guided walks through its primeval forest enable you to learn about traditional uses of the varied flora, view some of the 180 bird species and perhaps meet a warthog or bushbuck.
