On the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River in the very heart of the Samburu National Reserve, Intrepids Samburu Camp is renowned as a pioneer of luxury camping. Intrepids offers guests a safari location looking out over riverbanks where herds of elephant, buffalo and zebra come daily to drink – together with the rarer ‘northern species’ of reticulated giraffe, beisa oryx and long-necked gerenuk antelope. Its central location and intimate relations with its pastoralist Samburu neighbours will allow you to observe this dramatic wilderness from a host of fascinating perspectives.

Location:
Situated on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River in Samburu National Reserve.

Accommodation and facilities:
Accommodation is within twenty seven luxury tents which overlook the riverbanks. All have large four-poster beds and are finished to a high standard. Modern en suite bathrooms with showers complete these exquisite ’safari chic’ hideaways and each is complemented by a private and secluded veranda. Dining is enjoyed in the cool and impressive thatched dining area overlooking the river, after which guests can relax and unwind with drinks in the lounge and bar, which also hosts nightly talks and slide shows. The Lodge also boasts a freeform ’oasis’ swimming pool and a sunbathing garden.

Activities:
Early morning game drives, walking safaris with skilled Samburu guides, half or full day camelback safaris. Guests can also enjoy guided ’lifestyle tours’ of Samburu villages and livestock bomas, and traditional dances by local warriors and maidens.

Special attractions:
Intrepids plays host to the region’s most reputable and experienced children’s safari club - the Adventurers’ Club - which offers unique educational safaris, games and activities for children aged from 4-12 under the expert guidance of Samburu’s best-known naturalists and guides.
