Richard’s Camp is situated on the edge of a small forest, where elephant and plains animals are regular visitors to the camp’s perimeter and bird-life abounds. Owned and operated by Richard Roberts and his girlfriend Liz Fusco it has grown from strength to strength since the year 2000 when they turned it from the Robert’s family home into a small and exclusive tented camp. Richard’s extensive knowledge of wildlife, flora and fauna comes from his 25 years of growing up and living in the Masai Mara. Located on the edge a beautiful forest in the conservation area that his father Willy Roberts helped to create with the local Maasai people, this is a truly traditional tented camp.
Location:
Situated in a conservation area, north west of the Masai Mara Game Reserve.
Accommodation and facilities:
A traditional tented camp in true African safari style with a few modern surprises, each individually decorated tent has either twin or double beds with triple rooms available for families upon request. A solar system provides clean, silent power. All of the eight large and spacious custom designed tents feature an en suite flush loo and heated shower. As the weather almost always permits, all meals are enjoyed outside, but for those rare rainy or chilly evenings, dining is inside, adjacent to the beautiful and cosy sitting room with its roaring fire. At the end of the day, guests can indulge in an open-air Victorian bath tucked away in the forest, surrounded by flickering candles and the sounds of the bush.
Activities:
Game viewing on foot with an experienced guide, or in a customised 4x4 vehicle. Balloon safaris and day trips to Lake Victoria can be arranged at an extra cost. Night game drives are also available.
Special attractions:
Richard’s Camp is situated in an area owned and managed by the Maasai people themselves under the name of the Ol Choro Oirouwa Wildlife Management and Conservation Association. A portion of every client’s per night fee is put back into the community and local projects. The camp employs three local guides.
