Rekero Tented Camp

The Beaton family arrived in Africa in 1889, pioneering Kenya’s conservation movement in 1946. The conservation tradition continues today at Rekero Tented Camp where old time hospitality and a unique insight into the Masai Mara’s wildlife, cultures, flora and fauna is offered to all guests. Situated in what is recognised as a prime site within the Masai Mara Game Reserve, close to the confluence of the Mara and Talek River and ten minutes from the main wildebeest crossings during the ’Great Migration’, the camp overlooks large pools populated with hippo and crocodile, and offers some of the finest big cat viewing in Africa.

Location:
Situated in the midst of the Mara Serengeti eco-system - ideally situated for the annual migration.

Accommodation and facilities:
Accommodation is offered in eight, spacious tents, all of which are en suite with flush toilets and safari showers. Solar lanterns and kerosene lamps are provided in front of each tent to provide subtle lighting to the exterior and front. When it comes to meal times, the safari chefs produce appetising ‘farmhouse’ meals, skilfully utilising blends of flavours and cuisine from both East and West.

Activities:
Game viewing at Rekero is either on foot guided by experienced Il Dorobo and Maasai trackers, or in custom built four wheel drives. Other activities include bush picnics, sundowners and visits to the local trading centres.

Special attractions:
One of the most interesting features of the Rekero experience is the interaction and mix of cultures that the guides and the local Maasai share so readily with guests. A cultural visit to the local Maasai and Il Dorobo communities, with whom the camp has a close association, together with some insight into their bushcraft, is a truly humbling experience.
