Lewa Safari Camp

Nestled comfortably within the northern foothills of Mount Kenya, Lewa Safari Camp looks out across one of the lushest vistas in northern Kenya - and one of the most successful wildlife sanctuaries in the world. The game here is outstanding with white and black rhino and an abundance of other animals. This is a truly authentic safari camp; your days will be spent on game drives, night drives, bush walks, lion tracking and game viewing from hides. Your hosts Sean and Judy-Anne Hartley and their three dogs Dino, Pepper and Candy will make sure you receive a superb welcome. When not enjoying the excitement and exhilaration of a game drive, you can relax by the swimming pool in the delightful gardens or in the seclusion of your own private veranda outside your tent.

Location:
Situated in the heart of the 45,000 acre Lewa Wildlife Conservancy on the northern foothills of Mount Kenya.

Accommodation and facilities:
Guests are accommodated in twelve discreetly sited, luxury double safari tents, each with en suite bathroom including flush toilet and shower. All tents benefit from a secluded and private veranda. At meal times the camp’s excellent chefs produce delicious, freshly cooked home fare, with the emphasis on locally available ingredients. Adjoining the dining area is a warm and cosy lounge, which overlooks a floodlit waterhole where wildlife comes to drink. In the evening guests can sit around a campfire under the stars. The camp also boasts a superb swimming pool and poolhouse, ideal for al fresco meals.

Activities:
Activities include day and night game drives and bush walks with armed rangers, lion tracking and “close encounters” from the conservancy’s four game hides. Camel riding is also a popular activity. The camp also features educational talks and slideshows on the history and operations of Lewa and arranges visits to Kenya’s most authentic cultural boma at neighbouring II N’gwesi.

Special attractions:
If you have any specific interests - birding, archaeology, horse riding or big cat rehabilitation projects your hosts will tailormake activities to focus on these areas.
