Borana Lodge is built primarily for privacy with each of its beautifully appointed cottages exclusively sited with its own special view, totally secluded from its neighbour. This ensures that guests have the opportunity to appreciate the enchanting wilderness of Africa. The lodge overlooks a dam which fills with the floodwater flowing off the surrounding hills to become the local watering hole for all the wildlife in the area so there is constant activity for guests to watch. There is also a game hide built right on the edge of the dam so that visitors can observe the wildlife activity at close range.
Location:
Situated at the foot of Mount Kenya, adjacent to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.
Accommodation and facilities:
Guests are accommodated in eight delightful cottages with open fireplaces, fully en suite bathrooms and private verandas. There is a central eating and sitting area delightfully decorated by local artists’ paintings and sculptures, with comfy leather sofas surrounding a huge fireplace and picture windows looking onto the valley below. A massive rosewood table in the dining room is where meals are served by friendly and attentive staff. All meals are freshly prepared in the kitchen with vegetables and farm produce from the camp’s farm, freshly squeezed juice from the orchard and wines from around the world.
Activities:
Borana has a fleet of custom-built four wheel drive vehicles, driven by knowledgeable driver/guides. Since Borana is private property, there are no game park rules and no one else will ever obscure your view of the big game that lives here. One of the best ways to see wildlife is on a guided bush walk led by one of the experienced guides. Game watching on horseback is another popular activity here, with horses to suit all riders from beginners to expert.
Special attractions:
Borana is devoted to conserving wildlife with the whole ranch being available for exploration and guests are welcome to join in any of the ongoing activities, from tracking collared elephant and lion to visiting one of the many community conservation projects, which are supported by the ranch. Near the ranch is the Sergoi Rhino Sanctuary with a population of almost 40 black and white rhino.
