Kizingo

Kizingo sits at the end of a spectacular eight mile beach that stretches from Kizingo to the fashionable village of Shela. This is the ultimate ’castaway’ beach resort, offering guests a secluded and tranquil escape from the modern world.

The lodge has eight, very spacious bandas with high-pitched thatched roofs and shaded balconies, all set well apart from each other and offering breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean. In the early morning you can enjoy tea in bed and watch fishing dhows tack south to Malindi. Each room has a large double bed draped with mosquito netting and comfortable chairs for lounging. The en suite bathroom is well appointed with a flushing toilet, hot water shower, wash basin and dressing area.

Kizingo’s restaurant overlooks the Indian Ocean and offers delicious lunches and dinners using only the freshest local produce. Fish and seafood are the specialties, red snapper, crab and lobster, all served with locally grown vegetables and salads. Guests can be as private or as social as they wish, opting to enjoy fine dining on the balcony of their banda or join other guests in the bar and the dining room.

Activities include swimming with dolphins - ’dolphining’ is rapidly becoming a recognised word in the English language and most certainly at Kizingo, where it is incorporated into daily life. Otherwise known as swimming, entertaining and playing with wild groups of dolphins, ’dolphining’ quickly becomes an addictive pastime. This experience creates an almost childlike sense of euphoria and the most unlikely guests suddenly find themselves transformed - foolishly smiling and giggling with glee!

Other activities include fishing the deep seas or creek, visits to the Swahili tribal village of Kipungani, cycling on the mainland, visiting the historic town of Lamu or simply soaking up the sun and delicious ambience of this little piece of paradise.
