The pace at Ol Kanjau is relaxed and unhurried, purposely directed at providing guests with clear and sustained access to a traditional and natural Africa far removed from mass tourism and contrived commerciality. When you stay here you are at the centre of Kenya’s richest African savannah ecosystem and one that is the best studied and most understood. At Ol Kanjau your hosts are camp owners, Mike and Judy Rainy, who first visited Amboseli 37 years ago when they began what has become a lifelong interest in how the pastoral people of East Africa and their livestock interact with wildlife and natural ecosystem processes. Amboseli National Park is home to a growing population of elephant and at Ol Kanjau you will get to meet some of the 52 known matriarchal elephant families.
Location:
Situated in the game rich Amboseli National Park, Kenya.
Accommodation and facilities:
A traditional mobile tented camp, Ol Kanjau consists of six twin/double tents, with comfortable beds, safari style bathrooms and bucket showers. Each tent is made of lightweight canvas and is very spacious. Friendly staff bring fresh hot water whenever you need to fill up your safari bucket shower. Each tent is separated from the others providing privacy. At night the lanterns light each tent, creating a romantic atmosphere. At the centre of the camp is the tented dining area where guests are treated to delicious three course meals with freshly baked bread, roast meats and crisp vegetables.

In addition to following the movement of several known matriarch elephant families at close range, activities include game drives, bush walks, mountain biking, extensive birding and cultural visits to the nearby Maasai settlements.
Special attractions:
Amboseli, meaning "salty dust" in Maasai, is an ideal medium for following animal tracks. Just a few hours on foot from the camp with an excellent guide, you can learn how to read the tracks of animals.
