Ol Donyo Lodge nestles in the western foothills of the Chyulu range, overlooking Kilimanjaro with quintessential Africa in the foreground, flat top acacia trees and golden savannah. This was probably one of the first eco lodges in Kenya and has a longstanding working relationship with the local Maasai community. There is a resident herd of bull elephant that live around the lodge with larger herds passing through the area twice a year.
Location:
Situated in the foothills of the Chyulu Range, halfway between Tsavo and Amboseli National Parks.
Accommodation and facilities:
Accommodation consists of eight individual cottages built with local material. Each has its own veranda and unspoiled views of Mount Kilimanjaro. All cottages have en suite bathrooms, with a shower heated by solar power with wood burners as back up. All cottages have solar powered lighting. Two of the cottages have an additional bedroom for guests travelling with children. There is a centrally positioned sitting and dining room with an open fireplace. In front of the mess is a swimming pool and a waterhole below where animals come to drink.
Activities:
Game viewing in open Land Rovers, either for a full day, half day or night drives. Drive or walk to a beautiful spot for sundowners; bush breakfast or bush dinners. The country around Ol Donyo is ideal for walking as you have the choice of walking on the open plains or exploring the forests, fresh springs and lava tunnels/caves in the hills. There are ten horses of varying size and temperament to suit any standard of rider for morning, evening or full day rides.

Fly camping is also available here, camping out for one or two nights with a mobile tented camp either with horses, on foot or by open vehicle.
