Jao is probably the most luxurious camp in the whole Okavango Delta region. The whole of Jao is raised on wooden decks above the lush palms below and is beneath a dense canopy of ancient indigenous trees. Added to the unrivalled accommodation is its situation - in the heart of a superb variety of habitats, ranging from permanent waterways and lagoons to the thick Kalahari soils.
.
Location:
Jao Camp is situated in a private reserve on a remote large island, to the west of the Moremi Game Reserve in the heart of the Okavango Delta.
Accommodation and facilities:
Nine superbly luxurious rooms, each with a thatched roof with canvas walls and full en suite facilities including a bath, WC, and outdoor shower. Each room has a "sala" for midday siestas. The main dining, lounge and pub area is under cool thatch beneath the tree canopy. There is a plunge pool and an outdoor ’boma’ for dining under the stars, as well as an excellent wine cellar. Jao also offers a Salon with a full-time therapist, offering a wide range of massage treatments.
Activities:
Mokoro (dugout canoe) excursions, fishing, guided walks, day and night game drives.
Special attractions:
Nowhere in the Okavango do you experience more extreme contrasts than at Jao. From about May to late September, the floods arrive and the floodplains fill up with crystal clear waters. From October to April, the flood levels drop and the floodplains turn into savannah grasslands. Truly a camp for all seasons!
