Mombo is one of the premier camps in Botswana and renowned as a top wildlife documentary location. The lodge is luxurious, but still manages to retain the character and charm of a traditional bush camp. The guests’ rooms are up to two metres off the ground, allowing game to wander freely through the camp and offering you the chance to safely view at very close quarters. You will often find that animals take refuge under the rooms – a truly unique experience!
Location:
Situated on Mombo Island, adjoining the northern western tip of Chief’s Island, within the Moremi Game Reserve.
Accommodation and facilities:
The nine luxuriously furnished tents are spacious and well appointed with en suite facilities and an additional outdoor shower for those who enjoy a shower under the stars. Each tent has its own veranda and sala. The dining room, pub and living area overlook the open plain in front of the camp and there is a plunge pool for relaxing in the heat of the day.
Activities:
Wildlife game drives during the day, short game walking safaris, photography and birding.
Special attractions:
In 2001, white rhino were reintroduced in to the Moremi Game Reserve on Chiefs Island with the first group of four arriving at Mombo in November 2001. A further twenty two rhino arrived as a result of an innovative ’rhino-for-roan’ swap between South Africa and Botswana and in 2003, four black rhino were reintroduced into the area. The excellent game at Mombo has made this area Botswana’s top wildlife documentary location. National Geographic, the BBC and many others have filmed here
